A Gospel Hope is not a claim to answers or certainty. It is a commitment to not surrender to
hopelessness.
Real Hope does not require us to self generated happy talk in the face of hard circumstance. It does not ask us to cover up or look away from the hard or the horrible bearing down on us. It does not invite us to medicate, distract or avoid the reality that some cherished and valued piece of our life is disappearing and may never return. Real Hope is most often not something that we hold onto but something that holds onto us. Hope is not a passive theory of well being. It is not a Zen Garden of tranquility and incense. It is not a sanitized version of our past or an inspirational projection of our future.
It is clear eyed and laser focused on the past and current state of affairs. It is eyeball to eyeball with reality, no blinking, no regrets and no hesitation.
Hope never sees less than the reality it is facing, but it often sees more.
Our hope is not in hope. Our hope is in the source that makes hope possible.
A hope that is grounded in itself will ultimately collapsed on itself.
Real Hope is not generated by a Perspective but by a Person. Only a Living Person can anchor a Living Hope.
Only a Living Hope can keep Hope Alive in the dark. In Christ we have been given a Living Hope.
