Amore is the Italian word for love. It pops up in lots of songs and titles that typically feature sunsets, frolicking puppies and young couples strolling hand in hand in beautiful and serene settings. Love is soft and tender and fragile. It has to be protected and sheltered at all times.
The Latin root for Amore is Armor. So if Amore really is Love than Love really is Armor.
Love is not something that we protect, love is something that protects us.
It is not soft, frilly or fragile. It is hearty, functional and durable. Think of a Carhart Work Jacket, some old school Levi’s or a high functioning Body Armor outer shell.
Love is not about being wonderful and wimpy
It is not about floating above the real world but about charging into the real world with strength, clarity and humility.
The Dictionary defines Armor as; “a protective covering that is used to prevent damage from being inflicted to an object or individual through direct contact , weapons or projectiles.” Armor/Love is protective gear for people navigating hostile and dangerous settings. Love is not a warm feeling or a happy thought. It is what we put on when we head into battle, into conflict and into hardship. Love is an action more than an idea or a feeling. There is often more perspiration than inspiration in the daily choice to demonstrate Love.
